The Team

Byron Murphy (Electrical and Design)

Byron has had a strong interest in electronics from a young child where his parents often found electrical items pulled apart in his bedroom where he was trying to figure out why they had stopped working or how they even worked to begin with. Fast forward 30+ years and nothing has changed, Byron has worn a lot of hats since that time having his own data cabling business for some years before finding an interest in aviation.

Byron did his apprenticeship and went on to become a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer specialising in electrical instrument and radio. Designing wire runs and installation of some of the most technically advanced electrical equipment on the market along with leading his team on some specialist R and D projects working in conjunction with the mechanical team to bring the projects to completion. After 12 years in aviation Byron decided to find the next challenge, that’s when the 4wd and touring scene actually came to him. He was approached by an Australian business that specialised in 48V lithium battery modifications to 4wd and camping vehicles that included upgraded alternators to allow faster charging along with some very unique electrical components that required a sound system understanding for successful installation. This was the final stepping stone to what is now ALS Touring Solutions.

Byron’s technical knowledge and impeccable attention to detail makes installation and troubleshooting a walk in the park.

Shannon McGowan (Fabrication and Design)

Shannon’s love of flying, aviation and fabrication developed from a young age. Growing up around a gliding field in Victoria where his father was an active member, and being an aircraft fabricator he was always helping maintain the fleet of gliders and aircraft tugs. It was only natural that Shannon followed in his footsteps both as a glider pilot gaining his pilot’s certificate at 15, and then gaining an apprenticeship at 16 as an aircraft structures engineer.

Shannon has spent a successful career in aviation over the last 20 years working on everything from light sport aircraft up to commercial jets and nearly everything in between. Shannon is also a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer for both engine and airframe.

Shannon has a reputation for thinking outside the box which has led him into a number of roles in R and D for a number of different projects, these design and fabrication projects along with a strong desire to be challenged has led him to the touring market where he hopes to leave his ‘disruptive’ mark on the industry.

With a keen eye for detail, a constant desire for aesthetics to couple with practicality makes him a great asset to the ALS brand.
